Sustainable Stories: EnTouch Controls

EnTouch Controls

EDITOR’S NOTE: We want to learn how other companies approach sustainability, so we’ve decided to publish a series of posts featuring innovative companies and people who are doing their part to support our planet. See below to read a guest blog from James Walton, VP of Business Development at EnTouch Controls, an energy management company based in Richardson, Texas.

What’s your organization’s mission?
To provide our clients with services and solutions that help them be operationally more efficient, provide better customer experience, and reduce their energy consumption through our EMAAS (energy management as a service).

Please explain your company’s sustainability efforts and goals.
Our company is focused on ensuring that energy waste is eliminated by utilizing products and solutions that find, track, report, and implement changes for continual optimization. Once we have the facilities fully optimized, then we look for additional areas, i.e. system upgrades or renewable energy, to continue to help reduce the strain on our resources.

Why is sustainability important to your organization?
Sustainability is critical to the long-term health of our planet, and we want to ensure we are doing our part to leave it better than we found it. This is a difficult challenge with the ever-changing landscape, but every act counts. We focus on the areas that make the largest impact, and we educate our employees on these areas with tools and solutions that we have developed that can help them and help the customers they serve. We equip our employees with solutions for their homes that help them see how and where they use their energy, as well as control their HVAC systems so they can start making a difference.

What advice would you give other companies who are trying to get their sustainability initiatives off the ground?
Sustainability is hard, but it doesn’t have to be and there are lots of different avenues that you can go down. But as you pick a path, celebrate the wins along the way. It is amazing how the successes help others get on board. I would recommend starting with the simpler items, such as buying electricity from renewable sources, and then optimizing your facilities through controls and monitoring (this includes gas, electric, and water). Once you have this done, you will find additional areas, such as lighting retrofits and solar installations.
